Rosemary had a successful career, a good income and what, from the outside, appeared to be a life many would consider successful.
But behind that success was a pain the world may never have seen.
Last week, Rosemary Koech tragically died by suicide after, according to reports, reaching a point where she felt she could no longer go on.
Rosemary Koech Kimwatu was a respected Kenyan lawyer and data protection champion whose career spanned nearly two decades. She rose through the ranks of Kenya’s technology, fintech, legal and public policy sectors, eventually becoming the Head of Data Protection at KCB.
Rosemary was also a mother of four and a married woman. From the outside, her marriage looked like the kind of relationship we see online and admire.
You know those couples you see posting beautiful pictures together and you find yourself saying, “natamani ndoa yangu iwe kama yao.”
Everything looked perfect the smiles, the love, the family moments. You could easily look at them and think, “Hawa wameomoka, relationship yao iko sorted.”
But sometimes, social media shows you the highlight reel, not what happens when the cameras are off.
Behind the beautiful pictures and seemingly perfect marriage, reports say there were internal wrangles that eventually became too difficult to overcome. The issues continued to pile up until the relationship ultimately ended in separation.
After the separation, Rosemary moved to Ngong, where she had been staying alone until her tragic death.
And that’s the irony of life: sometimes the couple you admire from a distance may be fighting battles you know absolutely nothing about.
How could someone who seemed to have it all decide to end her own life? What happened?
On Friday, the 21st, Rosemary’s story turned tragic when she decided to end her own life kwa kujinyonga inside her bedroom, following what is said to be severe professional and personal distress.
